Woh Lamhe.....Scene 7

He found her standing near the window, lost deep in thoughts…..

He slided his hand inside the gap that her short yellow hospital gown provided from buttons and closing her very close to him .He kissed her softly at the back of her neck which was towards him and spoke as calmly as he could "Priya...listen to me...Riddhi told me everything….you are never ever to keep anything like this from me...I was so scared...you...you could have been taken Priya! How DARE you want to keep this from me! If anything happened to you."

Tears were filling her eyes as she was again, as sitting against the bed. Her expression was fearful. His gaze softened and he wrapped one arm around her waist and his other hand held her head firmly. “Priya” he murmured "I was so worried for you. I’m sorry, so sorry for not handling my anger better but..." Her mind still hazy from his peaceful kiss, didn't hear a word he said. She remembered her fear and her heart wishing her husband will be there and save her.

"You will NOT hide ANYTHING from me ever again do you understand?" he said to her kissing her hungrily all over the face, and gripping her hairs in a very brutal manner. Her head was tossing from side to side. She kept mumbling, "Please.........pl...Please......" "No Priya, you will promise me."She let out a frustrated scream..."I...can't...." "You Will Have To Promise Me!"  A deep wail escaped her throat "You aren't being fair!!!!!!!!!!!" "I know. Now promise me." his voice was frighteningly quiet."I PROMISE! I PROMISE! I WON'T HIDE ANYTHING FROM YOU!!!!!!"His straining voice muttered against her lips..."I ...love you...love you...Priya..."

They slept. Peace finally took over their minds....as their hearts beat in unison.

Prajna

As entered in the chamber of famous gynaecologist of the city, we were more into flux what to do and what not. We had enjoyed a great life till now but now we need to think about this. When entered it was empty and what we saw was the photo of gynace with different degrees, she was a gold medallist in the field of family planning, that’s the reason we are here. My husband wanted to have the best and why wouldn’t he? He was a very rich guy with always getting what he wanted. We were nervously waiting for the doctor, when nurse told us about her arrival.

There entered a doctor in her late 20s, she looked at ease even in the green operation coat, entering she said us to sit down and while washing her hands, she asked us to wait in the counselling room, and a sister was helping her with removal of coat.

We sat there and waited for her , the room was painted in light green colour and there were photos of many happy couples with the kids but the photo which was most beautiful was a photo of a man similar of their age holding a new born baby and was about to cry. His face had so many expressions, I was lost in the photo, I wished even my khadoos husband takes our kid the same way in photo.

That moment only she entered in pink blossom chiffon saree and taking up a single seat with notepad and pen as we sat in a sofa facing her and said “Feel relaxed, we will have a long session, first I will talk to both of you and then the lady alone. Don’t take me wrong I need to be corfirmed that you both are mentally and without any pressures are ready for this step. If a not wrong you both have being married for 3 years and when you married you were 27 and 18 respectively. In the first year only you adopted a boy child of 6-7 years. And now you are planning to have your own child. By going through records you may have to patient because sometimes it takes time in first attempt. But don’t worry if we follow the precautions properly you both will soon hear baby cries.”

As winding up the session, the gynace said “I must say I am impressed with both of you, and I assure you of certain good news in near future.”

Just then the lady said “Doctor, you were saying that we can meet any of the parents whose photos are there in this room but I would really like to meet the guy in the photo.” signalling the photo she was earlier admiring. The doctor smilingly said “You may not get to meet him because he is not one of my clients. Actually it’s the photo of Dr. Dasgupta”

"Ok! But thanks Dr. Durga for having our case" said my husband as we left

“Hey! Doctor Dasgupta how was your day?” asked my husband. “Nothing much. Had 3 deliveries and few constants but sometimes I wish I could spend more time at home with Prajna. She will be 5 months now and except a few weekends I never seem to have time.” She said lying down in bed caressing the baby girl sleeping while her husband was busy playing with her hairs. It was rarity in doctor’s profession to have such beautiful curly hair which she always kept tied in a tight braid. But now they were freed from braid and his caressing was making her relaxed

“But Prajna gets enough of my attention plus you always are there. We both knew that your line of choice had uncertain working hours and I am always there.” Said Aadya

“That’s the point Aadi, you know you yourself being such a huge name in psychologist but here you are sacrificing your career for this child, but isn’t it is a mothers duty to see that the baby is well nurtured whereas I am the mother who is out of house for most of the day.” Said Durga sadly. Aadya knew she was going through a stroke of self-scolding who better than him could understand that. Their was not a conventional wedding, Durga was in same hospital as him, she was a young junior doctor when he met her 5 years back, he was till then had established in his career. Slowly they became friends and the whole hospital knew about them as Aadya was very possessive of his things, so he and Durga were seen together most of the times. But it was when Durga had an major accident 4 years back, it was then when he decided that he needed to take things to different dimension.

He still remembers the day as if its just yesterday, he was out of country for a seminar and it was his arrival day, as they were talking on phone, he suddenly had her some commotion and the next thing was phone going dead. That 6 hour flight from Zurich to Kolkata was the longest hours of his life.

When he came back, he came to know that she had a hit and run case as some car in hospital struck her, she had major blood loss and was in weak status but alive and conscious. It was the first time, he saw her parents, she was from a very traditional family which was forcing her to return with them after this accident and wanted her to get married. But the way she looked at him, it was the moment he knew that she also loved him. Just then he took a pinch of vermillion from hospital temple and filled her maang. And that’s how 24 year Durga married 31 year Aadya and became Dr. Durga Dasgupta. Though their love story was talk of the hospital corridors so he quitted his job only a month later and started counselling from their home.

Aadya had an typical ancestral Bengali home, where he converted few rooms as his personal counselling session and she completed her post graduation after 6 months where she started to practise as gynaecologist and in few years she had settled place for herself and now run a hospital with him whereas they made the top floor of their house as their residence. It was this year after so much time he saw her in despair, earler this year, she gave him the biggest achievement of their life, Prajna, their daughter but it was first time he saw that she looks guilty for not giving their daughter enough attention to their daughter.

But what Aadya always realised that Prajna was best thing that happened in their life after years she Aadya felt smiling till the eyes, he had left his habit of years to smoke as he knew how bad is that for his angel, and she also got the gift of happiness and patience because she was that kind of person who use ring bell continuously for minutes till the gate was opened or the nurse came hurriedly, now learned to keep her every action as quiet as possible.

While he was thinking all this, he saw that Durga has unceremonisly slept on the bed. It has being very tiring on her with the fact that Prajna kept her on her toes plus after resuming her consultations, the unpredictable delivery times makes her tired.

As that night he was tucking his wife to bed after making his angel sleep in bassinet, he found that people are not wrong when they say that a child changes you….it as being years when for the first time he felt love for a girl and now when Prajna was born , he was scared will he be able to love her the same way but as he looked at Prajna, the first he saw was dark blue ocean like eyes, the replica of her mother and now he has learnt to love the baby infront of him……….

Alone in the Crowd

As she entered the pub, she found it total in party mood as she was and why shouldn’t she be it was her batch’s farewell party thrown by themselves. Every guy like always was eyeing her as she entered in a sequined silver dress with shinning red stilettoes. Today everything seem perfect in my life, she cleared her exams with good grades, had a loving support of her family and now had a great job waiting ahead for which she got selected in a campus placement. But there was one hitch, he had proposed and she didn’t knew how to react, she knew this was coming soon as they had met twice or thrice under circumstances, but she decided to let loose today and forget everything and enjoy the night as such night should be enjoyed.

After dancing for an hour or so, she was thirsty so she ordered a Virgin Mojito, when she saw another woman sitting over there she was lost in her own world, this was weird because the pub was booked for their batch party she didn’t looked their batch mate and even she was in her early 30s. By dressing the girl didn’t looked like some who gate crashed the party as she was dressed in a tight office wear grey dress with some gold chains. She was sitting alone in the corner and sipping her cocktail which looked like Bloody Mary. She was lost in her own world, though being the popular girl in their batch she was never out of attention but she felt some connection the girl and so she sat with her and asked her “Hey! You look lost. If you don’t mind you could share it with me because whatever you share with me will never go out from this place as we are stark strangers. It’s sometimes easier to say your agony to someone whom you don’t know.”

“Leave it darling, it’s just something not in your control and yes you are right it’s easier to share something to a total stranger then own ones. You enjoy the party and let me enjoy mine.” The lady said with a sad smile.

But somewhere when she didn’t left the other lady opened up saying “you should never be happy because happiness is like oasis disappearing just when you think you attained it.

Today I have everything; I have a super successful career and what not but let’s see that I am celebrating my super success alone in a pub full of teenagers where I am telling my life story to a stranger.

I was born to superbly rich family and then got high degrees in life. I am alumni of La Martini . And graduate from IIM Mumbai, then studied some years in London Economics School. I have worked with top brands of the world including some like Apple, Gucci and Versace. Then 3 years back I settled back in India and started a new concept in India, I own the takeover management company. I takeover companies in low prices and then sell them in huge profits within months. And today I have sealed the deal of my life.

Around 6 years back, I had being thrown out of a place saying that my ideas are way too dynamic and dangerous and drown everyone in them but today I bought it and it gives me immense pleasure to break it from piece -piece as it gives me pride. Yet I am alone here celebrating my victory with you who don’t even know my name or I don’t know yours.

It isn’t that I don’t have a family. I have a total family with father-mother, a sister and buaji but all are busy. My parents are currently in Milan for some fashion week; my sister is on her 20th honeymoon in Libya, whereas Buaji is in Benares resting in the kothi which I gifted her last month.

You would say that to loosen my aloneness I should marry but you will be surprised to know I am married. And there also I have huge family with dadi, chacha-chachi, husband, nanad, devars and bhabhis but still they are busy. Dadi with my buaji in Banaras. Chacha-chachi enjoying in Switzerland. Devar and bhabhi in America for weekend, nanad to Dubai for shopping week and you won’t believe even my husband is busy; we both are in same city yet at different places. He is having his celebration party with his clients.

I married my husband seeing the social standing we both shared I brought him contacts; he brought in money for my business set up. And in 3 years we are known as THE Couple. It’s said that we can even turn stones to profitable deals but here we are not even able to make something like a small talk except when on business.

Follow my advice; never marry just for the social status or business arrangements. You may for now seem to like my life but it’s not what it looks like. All glitters are not gold. And after years I saw someone in whom I saw my glimpses so that’s the reason I am saying you, ye daulat aur ye shauhrat khushiyaan nahi de sakte, tumhari tanhayee se tumko rihayee nahi de sakte.”

It got all overboard for her so she decided to lighten the mood by saying “let’s leave your life and my life discussions, let me buy you a drink to our new friendship.”

She looked in her eyes and said “Ok, but it’s my treat so I am paying.” Then she took her to dance floor and they danced till wee hours of the day. Then suddenly, the bar attender came and respectfully said something in her ears and she was about to leave when turned and said

“Thanks for the night, by the way I am Mrs Piyali Sisodia. And tell your friends they don’t need to pay the bill yesterday’s party is on the house as yesterday I took over this chain of hotels from where I started my professional life 7 years back and sacked 6 years back.”

“I am Nancy Chauhan. Hope we meet soon.” Nancy said getting sober but it was when she realised that she had spent her night with The Piyali Sisodia, very successful herself and spouse of equally successful businessman Mr Rakesh Sisodia. They are the most corporate couple yet today she saw the truth beside this happy successful couple with that her hitch to this marriage ended.

The first thing she did the next morning was to say yes to Sid for because after meeting Piyali she realised that everybody needed a partner even after how much success in your life, and that partner should be someone whom you choose for companionship and not for corporate relationship.

The same morning, she saw Piyali and Rakesh’s photo in paper with top news of their marriage completing 3 years the last night and as present Mr Sisodia gifted his wife a new chain of hotels, the same they were partying last night. And she saw them smiling grinningly for the photo but seeing Piyali’s eyes she saw lost and despair and remembered these lines:-

“Kehne ko saath apane ek duniya chalti hai
Par chhupke is dil mein tanhaayi palti hai”
